Web design Ellesmere Port: Groves FC is a grassroots football club based in the town, and before this project it had no online presence whatsoever. No website, no central place for team details or fixtures, and no way for new players to register beyond word of mouth and social media messages.
We built the club its first website on WordPress and Elementor, covering full team and squad details, club information, a custom player registration form, and a self-managed news section for match reports and announcements. Every part of it was designed so club volunteers can keep it current themselves.
As a local web design studio working across Ellesmere Port, Cheshire and the Wirral, this was a straightforward brief to state and a harder one to deliver: give a volunteer-run club a website that looks like it belongs to a serious organisation, and make it simple enough that it doesn't go stale after three weeks.
Grassroots clubs are run by volunteers in their spare time. Any website that needs a developer to update it gets abandoned within a season — and an out-of-date football site is worse than no site at all, because stale fixtures and results actively damage credibility with players and parents.
Groves FC had nothing to build from. No existing site, no digital brand, no content library, no photography workflow. Structure, tone, page hierarchy and content model all had to come from a blank page.
The most pressing problem was registration. New player sign-ups were being handled through scattered social media messages, so enquiries got missed, details were inconsistent and the club had no reliable record of who had actually signed up. Fixing that meant a form that captured everything the club needed, was quick to complete on a phone, and landed somewhere the committee would actually see it.
There was a visibility problem too. With no website, the club was effectively invisible to anyone searching for football in Ellesmere Port — the exact people it needed to reach.
We designed and built the club's first website using WordPress and Elementor, with a custom player registration form at its centre. The form captures the club's required details in a single mobile-friendly flow and routes every submission straight to the committee, so nothing is lost in a social inbox and every enquiry arrives in a consistent, usable format.
The structure is built around the two things visitors actually want: who the teams are, and what's happening now. Team and squad pages give the club a permanent, professional home for its details, while a news section lets volunteers publish match reports, results and announcements themselves. Editing is deliberately simple — locked-down Elementor templates, no page builder gymnastics, no way to accidentally break the layout — because a site a volunteer can't update is a site that dies.
Visually, the design does what grassroots sites rarely do: it takes the club seriously. Clean typography, strong use of the club's colours, and a fast-loading layout that works properly on a phone at the side of a pitch.
The build is mobile-first with clean markup and structured on-page SEO throughout, including local signals — the club's Ellesmere Port location marked up in schema, descriptive page titles and a logical heading hierarchy — so Groves FC now surfaces in local searches for football clubs in the area. That local visibility is the difference between a club that recruits and one that relies on someone knowing someone.
